Becoming an online tutor could become your next online job, because it is meant for students.  Just think about how much time and energy you’ve put into studying, doing homework, and even helping your friends with their homework.  If you are in college then you have a specific expertise chosen (or at least you should have picked a major by now!), which you are literally an expert in because you know more about it than the majority of people.

For example, let’s say that you know a thing or two about writing.  You have experience pushing out 15 page papers with tough deadlines, and you were still able to get an A on it.  You know how to do effective research, develop your ideas into clear words, and cite well.  These are skills.  Now let’s think deeper.  You may know how to write in a newspaper style, or how to write screenplays.  You may even know how to write comedy screenplays.  Writing critiques on comedy screenplays could be your specialty.  You are an expert.

Alright, so writing isn’t your thing.  Maybe math is.  Or possibly physics.  The further you analyze your skills and experiences, the more likely you will discover that you really are an expert at what you do.  Chances are there is someone out there who knows less than you, and is willing to pay you for your help.

If you feel hesitant to explore becoming a tutor because you don’t have any teaching experience, that’s ok.  There are experts out there who have experience being a tutor.  They are there to help you.  You can receive training on how best to help your students learn and become experts themselves.  Plus it’s always nice to feel appreciated and valued for your time and efforts, and by teaching you reinforce what you already know.
