Translation Jobs

Translation jobs in over 100 languages. Worldwide network of
freelance translators and translation agencies

If you can speak two or more languages fluently then you have the opportunity to make money from the thousands of companies and individuals who are currently in need of translation services. The world is getting smaller and more people are connecting than ever before. Now is the time to put your skills to work.

How much can you make?

freelance translatorFreelance translators have the opportunity to work when they want, and charge however much they want. However, if you want to compete with other translators, you can’t charge too much more than the going rates for your languages (unless you think you have mad skills!). For example, the going rate for highly used languages such as French and Spanish can be anywhere from .08 cents to as high as .14 cents a word, whereas less used languages from affluent countries like Finland or Denmark can be higher than .15 cents a word. Specialized languages like Farsi or Arabic can fetch over .12 cents a word.

This translates into $12 to $26 an hour. This of course is relative to how much work you want to put in! But remember, the more you do it, the better you get at it. Refine your skills, rake in more cash!

Consider this your own small side business or online job as a student. When your friends ask you what job you have, how cool would it be to say you’re a professional Russian/Hindi/Esperanto :) translator? It will look great on a resume, plus it will help you stay polished in your language(s) with continuous professional practice.

I’ve compiled a list of the following companies who connect your translation skills to people seeking them. Check them out, and decide for yourself which one works best for you.

logo2I’m sure by now you have heard of websites that give you the opportunity to find an online job, freelance gig, or contract type work like elance.com or odesk.com.  They’re great because you can pick and choose what job you want to do, and usually for how much you’re willing to do it for.  The only problem is that you have to pay for the service, usually in the area of $49.99 monthly membership dues and 10% of the final project costs.  These expenses can add up, especially for the poor student.

I found a website that is perfect for students.  It’s called sologig.com.  It’s full of freelance gigs, contract work, and online job opportunities.  You can search for jobs locally or nationally, or just on a specific interest or expertise.  The best part is that it’s FREE to join and FREE to get a gig!  Sologig.com connects you directly to your prospective employer/project manager which completely cuts out the extra costs associated with other sites.

If you are a student that’s about to graduate, you can check out what longer term job/business opportunities are available.

Sologig.com is fully owned and operated by careerbuilder.com, a trusted job search site used by millions of job hunters around the world.

Check out sologig.com, and let me know what you think!

As a student it’s hard to find the time to get all of your studying, homework, and extra curricular activities done with what little time you have after class. But to add a part-time job on top of all that? That’s insane!  Many of us don’t have any other choice. We have to make money somehow, and there are usually limited opportunities available around town.

Let’s see if you can relate to me on this.  One of the jobs I had going through college was working at a bakery.   I had to wake up by 4:30 am to start frying up the donuts!  I’d work all morning, and have to be to class by 9:30.  I was constantly exhausted and it really affected my schoolwork.  All for a measly $6.00 an hour!  But I had to work in order to pay for food, and this job was one of the only ones available in the area that fit my schedule.

I knew there had to be another option.  Maybe I could try to earn all the money I needed for school during the summer.  I tried door to door summer sales with the promise that I could earn huge bucks and be financially set for the year.  The reality though hit me like a one ton sausage.  After working my butt off all summer, I came home with a bill!

I started thinking of other ways to make money that didn’t require five hours of my time after school (or before school for that matter), and that of course paid for my needs.

The internet… Yes, I had heard that people were making money through the internet, but how?  I had to know.  I started dreaming about the flexibility it could offer because I wouldn’t be limited by work time constraints and a wimpy student wage.  I’d be free to set my own schedule based on my own priorities.

“There are literally thousands of online jobs for students, you just have to know where to look!”

So as I started exploring the, literally, thousands of ways to make money through the internet, and I immediately felt exhausted.  Affiliate Marketing, building websites, translating, selling your web design services online, becoming a math/english/mechanical engineering tutor, selling on ebay, selling on craigslist, selling your drawings, working as a remote customer service rep, being a personal virtual assistant…ok, I think you get the idea.  It can be really overwhelming!  It personally took me many months just to grasp which one would suit me the best.  Let alone actually diving into a method and making money from it.

I did alot of research.  I figured out what my strengths and my weaknesses were and I matched it up to a few different options.  I figured out what each option entailed in terms of the relationships I’d have to establish, the time and money commitment (many make money through the internet options are free, some require little money upfront), and how much I would enjoy the tasks associated with the work.

After some trial and error, I decided that building a website that would help fellow students like myself was the best option for me.  It leans on my strengths in graphic design, newspaper writing and reporting, international relations, and research.  I get to meet and talk to new people from around the world.  But most importantly, it allows me to build income on my own time.  I’m no longer worried about having to wake up super early for a bakery job or going to work straight after classes.  I’m finally in control!

Onlinejobsforstudents.com is a valuable resource for students looking for online jobs.  It’s full of interviews with students from around the world who take advantage of the internet to produce an income while going to school.  It also features student reviews of different make money through the internet opportunities.  This helps you feel secure when deciding on different options.  You know that if other students are doing it, you can do it too.  There is also a featured opportunity section that highlights a new opportunity every month built for students.  You will also find a place to do a search for online jobs.

If you are like me and want to regain some control of your life while going to school, check out the site and decide for yourself what works for you.  Make a goal and take consistent action and you will succeed!
